The City of Saraland contracts with Advance Disposal for residential garbage service. New residents are automatically signed up for garbage service when they activate their water account at the Saraland Water Department. The fee for garbage service is $17.78 per month. Advance Disposal provides a garbage can to each household. An additional garbage cart may be obtained through Saraland City Hall for an additional service fee of $17.78 per month. Curbside service for residential garbage is twice per week, with trash being picked up once a week. See the map to find out when the pick up days are for your area. Household Garbage: containers, bags and containerized rubbish must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the designated collection days. Refuse on any one pickup day must not exceed three (3) cubic yards from any one Residential Unit.
Each Container, Cart and/or Bag and Rubbish shall be placed at curbside for collection. Curbside refers to that portion of right-of-way adjacent to paved or traveled City Roadways.
Containers, Carts, Bags and Rubbish must be placed as close to the roadway as practicable without interfering with or endangering the movement of vehicles or interfering with or endangerign the movement of vehicles or pedestrians.
Trash Pickup: Advance Disposal provides for collection from residential units of Bulky Waste, Construction Debris (other than Construction Debris generated by a person, corporation, partnership, performing construction, remodeling, repair or demolition operations for hire) and Stable Matters. This service will be provided to each residential unit at least one (1) time each week.
Trees or parts of trees not more than six (6) inches in diameter and cut to less than six (6) feet in length will be collected if piled alongside the garbage can or rubbish container when the trimming and work is done by the owner. (Land Use & Development Ordinance, Sec. 12-26b)
Boxes, crates, and cartons will not be collected unless the same be broken down and securely fastened into bales or bundles not exceeding fifty (50) pounds in weight or four (4) feet in any dimension and deposited alongside the garbage can or rubbish container. Building debris such as scrap lumber, plaster, roofing, concrete, brickbats and sanding dust resulting from the construction, repair or remodeling of any building or appurtenances on private property, dirt, stumps and tree trunks, lims and branches six (6) inches or larger in diameter, will not be removed by the public works department or the city's contractor.
