Some traffic charges are payable without court appearance.  You may check the Magistrates Minimum Fine Schedule page to determine if your charge is listed as payable.  If your charge is not listed, you may call the court at 251-675-5393.

If you have an attorney, he or she may be able to obtain a Trial date for you without your appearance.  This is done on a case by case basis.  You or your attorney will need to contact the court for procedures.

If you are in the hospital, under a doctor's care, or your job requires you to be out of town on your court date, it may be possible to reschedule. The hospital, doctor, or your employer would need to fax paperwork to the court to show why you are unable to be present.  If you have done this, you will need to follow-up with the court to determine if we received the paperwork and if the case can be reset.  Our fax number is 251-679-3104.

You will need to notify the court on your court date that you need this service.  The court will give you appropriate paperwork concerning your income which you will need to complete. The Judge will then review your information, and grant or deny a court appointed attorney. 

It is unethical for a Judge to speak to anyone about their case anywhere other than on the bench during court.  If you have questions pertaining to your case, you will need to bring them before the Judge on your court date. 

State Legislation has imposed court cost as part of the total due on most charges, and are not imposed by the act of an actual court appearance.  The Judge's jurisdictional boundaries allow him to increase the fine in court, at his discretion, but the court costs remain the same whether in or out of court. 

Unless the Judge orders otherwise, if you are not prepared to pay ordered monies in full, Judicial Correction Services personnel will make payment arrangements in court.   

You may pay in person at the clerks window , directly inside the main doors of the court.  You may also pay by mail as directed on the Schedule of Fines page.
